Being horse lovers in Hurghada, its impossible to turn a blind eye to the horses around us, the conditions in which they live and their mistreatment.

Beginner’s lessons

Our beginner’s lessons at Hurghada Horse Riding School are suitable for both children and adult riders.Learners will learn how to mount and dismount and the aides for halt, turn, and walk.On the safety of a lunge line the rider will learn how to rise to the trot and practice exercises to attain a good riding position. Over recurring visits the rider will learn the basic anatomy of the horse, how to untack the horse, basic horse grooming and basic horse nutrition.

Meet a special horse

We are not a charity or NGO , but occasionally we meet a special horse, who may mot have had the best start in life ,that we know we can help by providing a loving lifetime home for them. We start the rehabilitation process by addressing any health issues the horse might have. The next step is weight gain, this can be a long process, which we don’t like to rush to avoid colic or other health complications.

The next step is weight gain

Towards the end of the weight gain process we start ground work using positive reinforcement techniques.

Do you break in horses?

Absolutely not! Breaking in a horse is a very cruel method and extremely outdated. We provide compassionate horse training where we build a bond with the horse on the ground over a period of many weeks before we gently back them.

The single most important thing to wear for horse riding is a safety helmet. At Hurghada Horses we have a selection of hats in different sizes to suit adults and children, which can be borrowed for arena lessons or desert rides. As you come to enjoy horse riding and decide to take it up as a hobby, it’s a good idea to buy your own in a size which fits your head perfectly.
Riding hats are available in Hurghada , If you plan on riding a lot in the desert , or during Summer, it is a good idea to get a helmet with air vents to avoid a sweaty head and so called ‘hat hair’.

The second most important part of your riding wardrobe is suitable footwear. Shoes should be closed with a flat sole and small heel, as not to allow the foot to fall through the stirrup. A Chelsea boot is ideal. Riding boots are available in Hurghada, but are expensive and sizes are often out of stock. Some riders like to wear leg chaps on top of their riding boots, but they are not necessary for beginners. Half chaps and long boots are very useful in the intermediate stages as they help the rider be more aware of their leg position. They also have the benefit of preventing the leg rubbing against the stirrup leather on longer rides.

At Hurghada Horses we use a holistic teaching approach, focusing on the relationship between horse and rider. Our horses are trained using compassionate training methods which enables our learners to build a strong bond with them. Learners are not only taught riding, but also how to care for horses. They often have the chance to feed, shower and groom the horses before or after a lesson.

The best moment you can spend with Hurghada Horses

Can I ride in leggings or jeans? Is a question we get asked often. Yes,you can when you are still a beginner, but shorts are a definite no as skin rubbing against leather can be very painful and could leave you with horrendous blisters and chaffs. If you ride in leggings, try to make sure they are quite thick to avoid chaffing. Jodhpurs are available to buy in Hurghada and are often very good quality, although they tend to be very expensive as they are imported from abroad. If you are an expat and plan on doing a lot of riding its a good idea to pick some up while back home.
